GREENVILLE - Kourtland Sinches returned a kick 90 yards for a touchdown and linebacker Michael Drennon caused and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter as the Mineola Yellowjackets rallied for a 50-33 victory over Whitesboro on Friday in a Class 3A Division I area playoff game at T.A. "Cotton" Stadium.

It was the 10th straight win for the Yellowjackets (10-2) who moved into the regionals to face Howe (9-3), a 31-7 winner over Jefferson on Friday in Lindale. The site and date of the game will be announced on Saturday.

Whitesboro (5-7) jetted out to a 20-7 lead thanks in part to turnovers as Mineola had an interception and a fumble on two of its first three possessions.

The Bearcats went up 13-0 as placekicker Cayden Cobb booted field goals of 48 and 37 yards.

Mineola got on track when Jeremiah Crawford scored from the 2. Cameron Sorenson kicked the PAT as the Yellowjackets pulled within 13-7.

However, the Bearcats struck back as Ryan Pollard galloped into the end zone from 26 yards. Cobb's PAT made it 20-7.

That's when Sinches gave Mineola the momentum with the 90-yard kickoff return with 4:48 the clock. Sorenson's extra point pulled the Orange to within 20-14.

After key defensive plays from Devon Goguen, Aaron Stanford and Sinches, Mineola got the ball back and went on another drive.

Noah Sneed threw the key block to clean the way for Crawford's 26-yard TD tally. Sorenson's PAT put Mineola up 21-10 with 1:44 to go before half.

The teams battled in the third with Dalton Harris sacking the quarterback and Stanford making a TD saving tackle.

The Yellowjacket attack got going again as Crawford dashed into the end zone from 34 yards out. Sorenson's PAT made it 28-20. Then with 24 seconds on the clock in the third, Crawford found paydirt again on a 8-yard run. Sorenson's PAT made it 35-20.

The Bearcats made one last go at it when they recovered a fumble and later scored a TD on Pollard's 13-yard run. Cobb's PAT pulled Whitesboro within 35-27.

Curtis London broke up a possible long pass on a flea-flicker play by the Bearcats.

Then Drennon came up with the big play. He swatted the football on the pitchout and picked it up while rambling to the Bearcat 28.

Mineola found the end zone as Chantz Perkins bulled in from the 4. Sorenson added another PAT and the 'Jackets led 42-27 with 2:20 to go.

After an interception by Frankie Meason, Crawford scored from the 1 and Sinches converted the two-point conversion for a 50-27 lead.

Pollard added a TD for the Bearcats on a 3-yard run, but the try to two failed.

It was the second consecutive year the teams have met in the area round. Last year, Mineola won 21-15.
