AUSTIN — The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs go for their third state championship in eight years when they play Smyer in the Class 1A Division I girls basketball title game today.

Tipoff is 8:30 a.m. at the Frank Erwin Center on the campus of The University of Texas.

It is the fourth straight year for the No. 1 Lady Mustangs (35-5) to make the finals. Smyer (32-6) is ranked No. 11.

This is also the third time for Martins Mill and Smyer to meet in the championship. The Lady Cats won the previous two title games, 52-49, in 2011 and 49-41 in 2010.

Martins Mill scored a 54-49 win in overtime over Snook on Thursday in the semifinals. Smyer downed Dallas Triple A Academy, 40-36, in the semifinals.

Three Lady Mustangs scored in double figures against Snook with senior Haily Jenkins leading the way with 15 points. Taylor Munns had 14 points. Jenkins had eight rebounds, including five offensive.

Cheyenne Brown had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Meagan Weather added 13 boards and four blocks.

Smyer was led by the double-double effort of 6-2 senior Kennedy Farr. The center had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Locke, a 5-10 senior forward, had 17 points. The two scored all but two free throws for the Lady Cats.

This is Martins Mill's eighth straight state appearance and ninth Final Four overall. The Lady Mustangs have won titles in 2006 and 2008.

This is Smyer's third state tournament appearance.
