Frisco Lone Star 56, Marshall 7
ARLINGTON - Frisco Lone Star quarterback Jason Shelley accounted for six Rangers’ touchdowns to help extend his team’s season in a 56-7 win over the Marshall Mavericks on Saturday in a Class 5A Division II regional at AT&T Stadium.
Lone Star (12-1) advances to play Terrell (10-3) in the state quarterfinals next week. The contest is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday at AT&T Stadium.
The Mavericks end their season at 11-2.
Lone Star outgained Marshall in total yards 580-113. The Mavs had 102 rushing yards and 11 passing yards. Chavis Mills led Marshall’s ground attack with 14 carries for 105 yards and one touchdown.
The Rangers passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 239 yards and four touchdowns. Shelley went 15 of 24 through the air for 340 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 23 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He was also on the receiving end of a touchdown pass. Darrin Smith had 19 carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Coby Shelton had four catches for 117 yards and one touchdown. Michael Johnson had four catches for 93 yards.
