DESOTO - A year after seeing their season end in a 55-35 loss to South Oak Cliff, the Marshall Mavericks responded with a 35-3 win over the Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Stadium.
The victory puts Marshall (11-1) into the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Marshall will now face Frisco Lone Star in the Class 5A Division II regional round at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
South Oak Cliff completes its season at 8-4.
The Mavericks finished the game with 171 rushing yards and 189 passing yards for a total of 360 yards offense. Cameron Haller was 8 of 13 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 16 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. Chavis Mills had 19 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Trel Patton had four catches for 116 yards and one touchdown. Jaquavian Dabbs had three catches for 68 yards and one touchdown.
South Oak Cliff finished with 291 yards of total offense, 157 came through the air and 134 came on the ground.
Quarterback David Johnson went 14-of-29 for 157 yards and one interception. Cedric Tatum led the Golden Bears’ rushing attack with 14 carries for 72 yards. JaMarcus Ingram had six catches for 61 yards. Datryan Evans had four catches for 52 yards.
