Lindale falls to Lake Ridge in bi-district

FORNEY — Ashlie Galutza, Murielle Hlavoc and Colbi Bennett teamed up to help eliminate Lindale from the postseason.

The Mansfield Lake Ridge standouts pounded out a 3-1 victory against Lindale in a Class 4A bi-district volleyball matchup Tuesday night at Forney High School. The final score was 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21.

The big-hitting Galutza and Hlavoc combined for 39 kills on the night while Bennett provided 34 assists. Their performances advanced Lake Ridge (16-19) to the area around to face Wylie, a 3-0 winner over Hallsville on Tuesday.

Lindale, which went unbeaten in District 16-4A, completed the season with a 26-10-1 record.

Galutza, a 5-9 senior, finished the night with a match-high 21 kills and posted seven in the final game alone. Her last kill of the night put Lake Ridge ahead 23-21 in the fourth game, which pretty much wrapped things up as 6-4 teammate Imani Davis registered a block on match point.

Hlavoc, an athletic 5-9 sophomore with a bright future ahead, added 18 kills and also produced points from the service line.

Lindale, meanwhile, was led by 6-2 junior Zhanelle Geathers and setter Sydney Tiiman. Gheathers registered 17 kills in the match; Tiiman finished with 34 assists.

The teams battled back and forth throughout the night, putting their spiking abilities on display during just about every point. Down two games to one, Lindale raced out to a 6-1 lead in the final game only to see Lake Ridge claw its way back and go up for good at 20-19.

Lindale seniors in action for the final time were outside hitter Hanna Brown, middle blocker/outside hitter Savannah Cantrell and return specialist Sarah McGregor.
