ROCKWALL - Robert E. Lee forward Alex Ruben got the equalizing goal for the Red Raiders against Rockwall and they used that momentum to win the ensuing penalty shootout to grab two points on the road Tuesday at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
The shootout win and two points gives Lee (6-4-3) 22 points in the District 11-6A league standings. For the time being, it moves REL ahead of Sachse into second place in district. Sachse plays Wednesday against Lakeview Centennial.
"It's fulfilling to get two points," Lee coach Marty Germany said. "We've played real good on the road this year, so we felt confident. We had one defensive mistake that led to their goal, but (we will take this)."
Ruben's equalizer came with 10 minutes remaining off a pass from Juan Davlin.
In the shootout, Sergio Saucedo, Daniel Dergara and Hayden Smith were successful with Lee goalkeeper Anthony Pirtle making two saves in the penalty shootout to secure the two points.
Lee will close out the regular season at home for Senior Night on Friday against first-place Naaman Forest. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Lee High School's Red Raider Field.
