KAUFMAN — Senior quarterback Trey Collier passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Kaufman Lions knocked off the Lindale Eagles 52-33 at Lions Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
The story of the night, though, was the play of the Gasper twins for the hometown Lions. Senior wide-out Cecil Gasper hauled in 3 touchdowns and twin brother Jay rushed for 115 yards and two scores.
Lindale stayed right in the thick of things for most of the first half as senior quarterback Dillon Heinaman fired touchdown strikes to senior receivers Colton Brown and Brennan Moore, respectively.
Sophomore running back Jordan Jenkins also added a touchdown run to keep the Eagles within striking distance at 19-28. However, Kaufman scored two touchdowns in the span of 3 minutes to close out the half to widen their lead to 42-19.
Offensively for the Eagles, Heinaman finished the evening with 252 yards through the air and Jenkins rushed for 115 hard earned yards on the ground. Moore and Conner Boyette each had over 100 yards receiving.
Linebackers Jaden Taylor and James Grady had tackles for losses and Barrett Soriano had a key fumbled recovery for the Eagles special teams.
Lindale (0-1) hosts Forney while Kaufman (1-0) travels to Crandall next week.
