NACOGDOCHES — John Tyler had five players in double figures as the Lady Lions rolled to an 83-47 victory over Nacogdoches in their final District 16-5A game of the year.

Tameal Jones hit for 15, followed by Destini Whitehead (13), Amia Wickware (12), Ashtyn Beal (12) and Alyssa Mayfield (11). Kaleon Grant added eight and Kaleigh Hackett six for 14th-ranked JT.

"Destini Whitehead did a great job on defense, with rebounding," JT coach Mike Smith said. "Alyssa Mayfield did a good job rebounding for us.

"Amia, it was her birthday; she had a great day with several blocks."

The Lady Lions play in the Macy Chenevert Patriot Holiday Tournament from Dec. 29-31 before returning to league play on Jan. 6 at home against Whitehouse.

Nacogdoches Boys 69, John Tyler 62

NACOGDOCHES — Tyler Underwood hit for 26 points, including five 3-pointers as Nacogdoches took down John Tyler 69-62 in the District 16-5A opener on Friday.

The Lions (11-4, 0-1) fell behind in the first quarter and couldn't make up the difference in the second half.

"They jumped out on us 20-13 and it's just tough when you're in district play eveyrbody's going to be coming to get you," JT coach Cedeno Clark said. "We got outplayed. You've just got to give Nacogdoches credit, they just outplayed us tonight."

J'Michael Jasper led JT with 15 points while Jacob Owens-Bush and Ja'Khari Lewis each scored nine.

De'Quan Batiste added 23 for the Dragons.
