DALLAS — Hunter Shattuck, of Jacksonville, fired an opening round 71 to lead the fifth annual Lanny Wadkins Junior Golf Championship by one stroke on Monday.

Shattuck made four birdies and four bogeys to finish at even-par. Ryan Grider, of Lewisville, leads the Boys 14 & under division, while Kirsten Pike, of Ovilla, leads the Girls 12-18 division.

Conducted by the Legends Junior Tour, the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship features a field of 84 players from Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

The Boys 15-18 division is playing the par-71 Bent Tree CC from 6,757 yards, the Boys 14 & under division from 6,272 yards and the Girls 12-18 division from 5,860 yards.

This is the fourth time Bent Tree Country Club has hosted the Championship.

Shattuck, who will be looking for his first Legends Junior Tour victory, will enter the final round with an advantage over two players who also have never won an LJT event: Preston Harrington, of Dallas, and Preston Woodard, Mansfield. Ben Taylor, of Mount Pleasant, is eighth after carding a 74.

Also, William Wilder, of Henderson, is tied for 46th with an 83.
