MOUNT VERNON - Brownsboro emerged victorious against Gilmer with a hard-fought 39-37 win Saturday in the championship game of the Mount Vernon Tournament.

It was the second time the Bearettes (8-0) had faced Gilmer in the tournament.

“We feel very fortunate to beat such an athletic team twice in one tourney,” Brownsboro coach Fred Griffin said. “We played hard and are improving each game.”

Lexi Houston controlled the paint to lead Brownsboro with nine points while M.J. Alexander Lani Compton chipped in eight points apiece.

Gilmer and Brownsboro will match up again after the Thanksgiving holiday on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Hawkins consolation champs at New Diana tourney

NEW DIANA - Hawkins took down Ore City 38-18 on Saturday to win the consolation championship of the New Diana Tournament.

Madison Staruska led the Lady Hawks with nine points while Olivia Simmons added eight points to go along with nine rebounds.

Arp runs over Waskom, 76-26

ARP - Led by 10 points from Briana Medlock, the Arp Lady Tigers grabbed their first win of the season Saturday by defeating Waskom 76-26.

Arp took control from the start, jumping out to a 23-4 lead in the first period and never looking back.

The Lady Tigers (1-2) will next face Grace Community at home with a tip-off slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Arp High School.

Chapel Hill takes third at Cushing tournament

CUSHING - The Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs rolled to comfortably wins over Huntington and West Sabine to finish third overall at the Saturday at the Cushing Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs received 17 points from leading scorer Mykaela Alfred in both victories as Chapel Hill moves to 6-1 on the season.

Chapel Hill will next host Henderson at noon on Monday.

All Saints boys win Austin

Brentwood tourney

AUSTIN - Chris Williams and Sean Phillips earned all-tournament as the All Saints Trojans finished 3-0 in the annual Austin Brentwood Boys Basketball Classic.

On Friday, Williams scored 29 points and Luke Lee tipped in a shot with 1.5 seconds remaining as All Saints scored a 58-56 win over Katy Faith West.

Lee added 13 points, while Phillips had 12 points in the win.

On Saturday, Phillips had a game-high 28 points as the Trojans defeated the Austin Home School Royals 76-60.

Scottie Turner (12) and Nathan Jasper (11) were also in double figures as the Trojans improve to 3-1.

All Saints will compete in the TABO Woodmen of the World Basketball Classic beginning Friday in Whitehouse. The Trojans will face the Wildcats at 7 p.m. at Wildcat Arena.
