Class 2A Region III

Linden-Kildare 4, Troup 1

MARSHALL — Linden-Kildare waited until its final at bat Saturday to beat Troup, 4-1, and sweep the best-of-three Class 2A Region III softball semifinals series at Lady Mavs Stadium.

Linden-Kildare (30-3) plays Mineola for the regional title and state tournament berth at a time and site to be determined.

Things looked bleak for L-K going into the seventh inning down 1-0 and the 7-8-9 batters scheduled to hit. But after losing pitcher Josee Ross retired the leadoff batter, pinch hitter Logan Wilson blooped an infield hit over Ross’ head, Quala Love bunted for a hit and the comeback was on.

Taylor Wells then lined Ross’s 3-2 pitch to left field. The ball rolled to the fence when the Troup left fielder missed a diving attempt at a catch with both runners scoring and Wells reaching third with a triple.

Shardai Love drove a Ross fastball over the left fielder’s head for L-K’s third triple of the game and she later stole home.

Wells, who retired 16 batters in a row after Ross doubled home Troup’s only run in the first inning, allowed a runner on L-K’s only error in the bottom of the seventh, but got a force out before fanning the final two batters. She finished with a four-hitter, eight strikeouts and a single walk.

Troup finished the season at 30-8.
