KILGORE — Robert E. Lee fell behind 5-1 after two innings against Carthage and fell short in its comeback attempt, eventually falling 7-5 Thursday in their opening game of the Oil Belt Classic at Driller Park in Kilgore.

It was the first loss for Lee (5-1), which faces Pine Tree at 7 p.m. Friday at Driller Park.

Ben Romines went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Lee while Ross Himes had a single, double and scored two runs.

Lee pitchers combined to issue 10 walks in the game, with all but one Carthage batter receiving at least one free pass.

Carthage's Brody Colle went five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts to get the win.

The game was called after the fifth inning because of a two-hour time limit.

Wildcats pick up two wins in Forney tourney

FORNEY — The Whitehouse baseball team won a pair of games at the Forney Tournament on Friday.

The Wildcats beat Fort Worth Christian 8-4 and Dallas Christian 11-9.

Whitehouse pitcher Patrick Mahomes had a no hitter through six innings against FW Christian, while teammate Derek Clemons went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Michael Nuon went 2 for 4 with three RBIs against Dallas Christian.

Cougars split at Arp Tourney

NEW CHAPEL HILL — Grace Community split its first two games at the Arp Tournament, falling to Jefferson 10-3 and topping East Texas Christian Academy 9-2.

In the first game, Quincy Clements and Phillip Laster each had a double and three RBIs to pace Jefferson, which scored all of its runs over the final two innings. Austin Patrick went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Cougars.

The second game was highlighted by Patrick's three-run blast in the sixth inning. Patrick finished with four hits on the day. Jacob Spitzer added a double among his three hits.

Ben Craig tallied three of the Panthers' eight hits.

HENDERSON — All Saints beat Pittsburg 4-3 and lost to Henderson 7-6 at the Henderson Tournament.

Trey Rowe had three hits and Charlie Short knocked in two runs to spark the Trojans over the Pirates.

Against the Lions, Michael Caruso had three steals for All Saints.

All Saints opened its season with a win and two losses in the Tyler Tournament.

The Lady Trojans lost to John Tyler 8-7 and Bishop Gorman 13-3 before Madison Goforth threw a three-inning no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Palestine JV.

Goforth had an inside-the-park home run in the loss to JT, a feat matched by Maddie Smith in the win over Palestine JV. Smith also had two doubles on the day.
