MARSHALL - Having traveled 75 miles to play a team less than two miles away, Bullard defeated Bullard Brook Hill 6-1 on Friday at the Marshall Tournament.

The Panthers scored two in the first and four in the second and held the Guard (5-3) to a single run in the sixth.

Mason Smith had two of Brook Hill’s three hits.

Earlier in the day, Marshall scored eight runs in the final two innings to beat Brook Hill 8-7.

The Guard led 6-0 entering the bottom of the sixth before the Mavericks rallied.

Seth Brasher had a game-high four hits for Brook Hill (5-3) while Miguel Vega had two RBIs.

On Saturday in Marshall, Brook Hill will play Liberty-Eylau at 3:30 p.m. and Pleasant Grove at 6:15 p.m.

Hawkins 16, Grapeland 1

FRANKSTON - Hawkins racked up 14 hits, including three from Jesse Harwell, in a 16-1 win over Grapeland on Friday at the Frankston Tournament.

Joey Akers (RBI, three runs), Caleb Turner (three RBIs, run), Kyle Durnal (four RBIs, two runs), Chris Sneed (three RBIs, run) and Cain Austin (two runs) all had two hits for the Hawks. Josh English and Brady Stone both added two RBIs.

Turner struck out nine in four innings for the win.

On Thursday, Hawkins beat Bullard JV 10-6 behind 10 strikeouts from Akers. Sneed had three hits while Turner tallied three RBIs. Tyler Willard came through with two hits and two RBIs while Jeffery Perkins had two hits and two runs.
