JACKSONVILLE — Troy Hayden and Anna Hayden of Whitehouse ran to first-place finishes in the District 14-4A Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Jacksonville High School.
In the team competition, Hallsville won the boys race, while Pine Tree captured the girls race.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualify for the Region II Meet on Saturday at Vandergriff Park in Arlington. The race will be on the Gerald Richey Course.
Troy Hayden ran to a time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds to win the gold. He was followed by Troy Jones of Marshall (16:55) and Jordan Pfaff of Hallsville (17:04).
Rounding out the top 10 earning regionals were Taylor Mathis of Marshall (17:15), Jake Gray of Hallsville (17:18), Jesse Rodriguez of Hallsville (17:20), Brian Thompson of Pine Tree (17:23), Cory Schmoker of Whitehouse (17:38), Abner Barrera of John Tyler (17:44) and Luca Spencer of Marshall (17:54).
Hallsville won the team race with 37 points, followed by Marshall (45), Pine Tree (90), Nacogdoches (113), Whitehouse (120), Kilgore (144) and John Tyler (148).
In the girls individual race, Anna Hayden had a winning time of 14:05. She was followed closely by Christina Nelson of Pine Tree (14:08) and Cheynee Atwood of Whitehouse (14:29). Other area players advancing to regionals were Kendall Rosetta (4, 14:41), Alex Fiedler of Pine Tree (8, 15:20) and Lindsay Johnston of Jacksonville (9, 15:21).
Pine Tree won the girls team title with 57 points. The Lady Pirates were followed by Hallsville (60), Whitehouse (71), Marshall (78), Jacksonville (86) and John Tyler (146).
Sarah Grounds of Whitehouse was out with an injury, but Rosetta stepped up to finish fourth and help the LadyCats squad qualify for regionals.
