LONGVIEW - White Oak quarterback Heath Hood threw for three touchdowns in the first half to lead the No. 10 Roughnecks of Class 3A to a 56-8 rout over Spring Hill of Class 4A Friday.

The win moved the Roughnecks to 3-0 on the year and gives White Oak a five-game winning streak against the Panthers and a 26-22 overall advantage in a series that dates back to 1948.

Hood gave White Oak the lead with a 72-yard touchdown pass to Jaylon Jeffery in the first quarter. At the beginning of the second quarter, Hood threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Max Kutch. The pair hooked up again for a seven-yard score toward the end of the second quarter.

Hood completed 13 of 23 passes for 244 yards in the first half. He finished with 396 yards and 4 touchdowns and also ran for two touchdowns. Jeffery finished the game with two receptions for 121 yards. Kutch caught three passes for 89 yards. Connor Hearron caught two passes for 70 yards.

Spring Hill’s only score was a nine-yard run by Zach Tulpa, which gave the Panthers a brief lead.

The Roughnecks’ defense forced two turnovers when Spring Hill’s quarterback Dayson Adaway fumbled twice. White Oak out-gained Spring Hill 367 yards to 131 in the first half and 548-154 for the game. The Panthers were unable to complete a pass in the first half.

Tulpa rushed for 85 yards on 21 carries. Adaway rushed for 52 yards on 25 carries. Spring Hill didn’t complete a pass until the fourth quarter - which was caught by Tulpa for 10 yards. The Panthers were called for 14 penalties - which gave White Oak 123 yards. Spring Hill only recorded two first downs in the second half to finish with 13.

The Roughnecks added three more touchdowns in the second half. Hood ran for a 15-yard score and threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kason Kienzle, who finished the game at quarterback.

Second-team running back Dallas Reeves put up the final tally on a two-yard run. Brandon Cook was the Roughnecks’ leading rusher with 91 yards, which pretty much all came on an 84-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Spring Hill (2-1) visits Rains next week. White Oak (3-0) will travel to Daingerfield.
