Volleyball Tuesday Roundup: Whitehouse cruises past Spring Hill


Whitehouse overpowered visiting Spring Hill in three games to secure a 25-15, 25-18, 25-13 win on Tuesday. Whitehouse moves to 19-7 overall.

The leading Lady Wildcats were Rylie Smith (18 digs, 2 aces), Sydney Malmstrom (12 kills, 4 blocks), Grace Hendricks (22 assists), Macy Smith (16 digs) and Mahayla Mitchell (16 digs). Whitehouse JV also won their game (25-21, 25-19). Carthage will travel to Whitehouse on Friday.

Pine Tree stops John Tyler in four games

John Tyler’s Kornequa Edwards finished with six kills to lead the Lady Lions, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 loss to Pine Tree on Tuesday.

JT ran out of steam in the pivotal fifth game to fall 19-25, 25-10, 25-12, 22-25 and 15-3.

Talia Smith paced the Lady Lions with strong services to go with two aces, five kills and two digs.

In the subvarsity matches, John Tyler’s JV defeated Pine Tree 2-0 (25-20, 25-17) with the Lady Pirates winning the Freshmen match, 25-14, 25-19.

Canton defeats Brook Hill in three games

The Lady Guard were stopped in sweep fashion Tuesday by Canton, 25-13, 25-23, 25-16.

Leaders for Brook Hill in the loss were: Madeline Reed (6 kills, 5 digs), Bailea Mapes (4 kills, 12 digs), Maddie Anthony (17 assists, 9 digs, 3 aces), Katherine Mondrick (4 kills, 7 digs, 2 blocks), Morgan Carpenter (2 blocks, 3 kills) and Kaitlyn Juarez (8 digs).

In the subvarsity match, Brook Hill won in two games, 25-20, 26-24.

Hawkins falls to Fruitvale in four games

Jayce Cheshire and Christian Harris combined for 13 kills and Hawkins’ Alyssa Eddington and Harlie Conover totaled 27 digs, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Hawks were denied by Fruitvale on Tuesday.

Hawkins lost 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 25-20.

Along with Conover and Eddington’s efforts, Emily Hodges and Raeli Smith finished with 12 digs apiece. Smith and Lilly Long also combined for 16 assists in the loss.

In the subvarsity match, Hawkins defeated Fruitvale in two games, 25-22, 25-20.

All Saints too much for Sabine

All Saints made quick work of the Sabine Lady Cardinals Tuesday, winning in three games, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.

Leaders for All Saints in the victory were: Olivia Young (13 kills, 10 digs), Hanna Waits (10 kills, 5 blocks), Trysten Mosley (7 kills), Lilley Lewis (30 assists, 3 aces), Maddie Varga (15 digs), Jaylen Wheat (6 digs, 2 aces) and Lindsey Smith (3 blocks).

All Saints (15-6-2) will next be at home against Whitehouse at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Brookshire Gymnasium.

White Oak snaps Winona 19-match unbeaten streak

It took five games for White Oak to hand Winona it’s first loss in weeks. The Lady Wildcats were stopped, 12-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8.

Nichole Garrett paced Winona in the loss with 16 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Makayla Champion finished with eight kills and two blocks.

Winona begins district play Saturday at Arp. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at Arp High School.

Quitman sweeps Van

Quitman dispensed a quick defeat to Van Tuesday evening with the Lady Bulldogs winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-14. Quitman’s leaders were Kaci Raley (13 kills, 8 digs, 3 blocks, 4 aces), Molly Tanner (11 kills, 8 digs, 1 block, 2 aces), Cammie Hicks (1 kill, 2 digs, 28 assists, 1 ace) and Madalyn Spears (5 kills, 13 digs, 1 ace).

Quitman JV lost its first set, but then went on to win the match in three (23-25, 25-12, 25-9). Quitman will travel to Scurry-Rosser to begin district play on Friday.

Rains too much for Caddo Mills

The Rains Lady Cats sent Caddo Mills packing in three games 25-19, 25-18, 25-16, Tuesday in a non-district match.

The top players for Rains were: Shelbi Sheppard (5 kills, 19 assists, 13 digs, 2 aces), McKenna Hildebrandt (8 kills, 6 blocks), Summer Nerkowski (5 kills), Elissa Elliot (14 digs), Aubrey Gowin (3 blocks) and Mackenzie Tolleson (3 aces).

The Lady Cats will head to Athens on Friday to take on the Lady Hornets. Rains’ record is now 17-10.

Grace Community downs Bullard

Grace and Bullard went head-to-head on Tuesday, with Grace pulling out a three set sweep (25-20, 27-25, 25-20). Leaders for Grace were Alexis Saczek (12 kills, 3 blocks), Summer Tennison (10 kills), Rylan Wright (3 blocks).

Grace’s next match finds the Lady Cougars traveling to Mesquite to play against Dallas Christian.
