VAN - The unbeaten Van Vandals opened district action with a convincing 44-6 win over the Crandall Pirates Friday night on Mal Fowler Field at Van Memorial Stadium.

The Vandals improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in District 8-4A Division I play. Crandall falls to 2-3 and 0-1.

Quarterback Garrett Moseley led the Vandals again this week with his legs and his arm. He rushed for 108 yards and a TD, while passing for 188 yards and four touchdowns. He connected on 11 of 16 passing attempts.

Van’s Isaiah Allred had three receptions for 101 yards and two TDs.

Moseley threw TD passes of 25 and 64 (Allred), 9 (Michael Huffer) and 11 (Holden Myers). He rushed in from 11 yards, while Davonte Johnson scored on an 18-yard dash.

Alex Vasquez kicked six PATs.

The Pirates’ only score came on a 50-yard TD catch by Jason Brewer from Michael Dearman.

Van also blocked an extra point and recorded a safety.
