Tyler Lee assistant football coach Ted Patton has been chosen as the new head football coach at Kerens High School, according to Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Patton spent two seasons with the Red Raiders, coaching defensive ends and inside linebackers. He also served as the head boys powerlifting coach.
Patton’s son, Mark, played quarterback, H-back and punter for the Red Raiders the past two seasons and has signed with Tyler Junior College.
Patton replaces Terrell Harris, who led Kerens to an 18-36 record and two playoff appearances in five seasons.
This will be Patton’s first head coaching job since 2015 at Rusk. Patton was at Rusk for eight seasons, posting a record of 29-53 and one playoff appearances.
Before arriving at Rusk, Patton was the head coach at Elysian Fields for three seasons, including leading the Yellowjackets to the Class 2A Division II title game in 2007. Elysian Fields went 14-2 that season, falling to Canadian in the state championship contest.
Patton, who has also been an assistant coach at Arp and Malakoff, has a career record of 56-65.
