Lee, JT meet in soccer

Crosstown rivals John Tyler and Tyler Lee hit the soccer pitch on Tuesday as the Lions and Red Raiders meet at the JT Field.

The match has 7:15 p.m. start. The JV game is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Lions (6-3) competed over the weekend in the Midwestern State University Showcase in Wichita Falls. JT is coming off a 2-1 win over Grapevine. Scoring goals for the Lions were Johnathan Sosa and Leonardo Arteaga. Assists were from Victor Leon and Javier Felix. Arturo Hernandez was in goal for the Lions.

In the first game, JT lost to Mansfield Lake Ridge, 2-1. Leon scored the goal for JT

The Red Raiders (2-4-1) finished 1-2 in the Lobo Invitational in Longview, winning over Forney 5-0 and falling to Jacksonville (2-1) and Lufkin (2-0).

Scoring goals against Forney were Quirino Avelar (2), Landon Bravo (1), Nathan Eidam (1) and Noe Robles (1). Tristan Whelchel was in goal for the clean sheet.

Robles had two assists with one each by Angel Castillo, Joseph Spalding and Neri Ruiz.

Against Jacksonville, Avelar scored the Red Raiders’ goal.

BASKETBALL

The John Tyler boys and girls basketball teams are home Tuesday against Marshall, while the REL Red Raiders host Longview. The Lee Lady Raiders visit Longview.

JT hosts Marshall in a District 16-5A doubleheader at the Lions Den. The girls game is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m., followed by the boys at about 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Lions (8-15, 2-3) saw their two-game winning streak end on Saturday in Hallsville. The Marshall Lady Mavericks are 9-11 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The Lions, who saw their two-game win streak end at Hallsville, are 5-12 overall and 2-1 in district. The Mavericks are 13-7 and 3-0 in district.

The Red Raiders are 10-11 overall and 0-2 in District 11-6A. The Lobos are 18-6 and 2-1. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the REL Varsity Gymnasium.

The Lady Raiders take their 19-6 overall mark and 3-1 league record to Longview to face the Lady Lobos (7-9, 1-3). Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Lobo Coliseum.
