The John Tyler Lions preyed on their latest victim in their hunt for a fourth straight district championship.
JT remained unbeaten and untested in district, after shredding apart Jacksonville for a 59-7 homecoming win Friday.
The third-ranked Lions improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in district. The Lions increased their district win-streak to 18 games. JT has outscored its three district opponents 157-21 in 2012.
JT finished with 527 yards of offense while holding Jacksonville to 186; more than half coming after the starters left the field in the third quarter.
"That's what we want to do, have a great defense and give (the offense) the ball," JT head coach Ricklan Holmes said. "We expect them to go and score. When you have a defense doing what they're doing, and an offense doing what they're doing, you have a team depending on each other."
Greg Ward supported the JT cause with 262 yards of offense and five TDs. Tyus Bowser powered the JT defense with five tackles, two sacks, four quarterback pressures and three caused fumbles.
The JT first-team offense rested after scoring on its first possession of the second half. The backups provided three more scores, thanks to the rushing efforts of Duan Brooks (2-71) and Nick Cain (3-67).
JT churned out a season-high 306 rushing yards. Reggie Gipson gained 83 yards on three carries, including a 74-yard highlight reel run early in the second quarter.
Ward connected with three different receivers for throwing scores, hitting Fred Ross on a 12-yard run five minutes into the third for a 49-0 lead on his final play. Ward completed 12 of 19 passes for 221 yards and three TDs. The all-stater supplied 41 yards and two more rushing TDs.
The JT secondary surrendered 67 yards , holding Jacksonville more than 200 under its season average.
JT applied a big blow early, scoring 20 seconds into the game after Jacksonville attempted an unsuccessful onside kick to start the game.
Ross reached the end zone on a 4-yard run, ending a three-play drive and opening the rout.
Ward played a part in four of the next five scores, finding paydirt on a 9-yard run and later a 6-yard run, and finding Justice Liggins on a 22-yard pass in one-on-one coverage, and Darion Flowers from 47 yards out over the middle just before the intermission.
Gipson mixed in a dazzling 74-yard run, going up the middle and juking out one defender before turning on the jets to complete the jaunt.
JT held Jacksonville to 40 yards passing in the first half and forced two turnovers. Jacksonville sophomore quarterback Carter McCown left the field on a cart late in the first half after being sacked by Bowser, and fumbling the ball. Richard Gipson recovered, leading to Flowers' TD, and a 42-0 lead at the midway point.
"I told the guys we never want to dig a hole for ourselves," Holmes said. "We want to come out fast and finish fast. That's what we've been building up to tonight, playing from the start to the finish."
