Grace softball

HEATH — The Grace Community Lady Cougars are headed to the state softball tournament.

Presley Johnston and Landry Fowler each drove in four runs and Rachel Labat scored five times as the Lady Cougars defeated Fort Worth Christian 25-14 in five innings on Saturday in a TAPPS Division II regional championship at Rockwall-Heath High School.

Grace will meet district rival Bullard Brook Hill in the state semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Crosby.

The Lady Cougars fell behind 1-0 before plating 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Cardinals pulled within 12-8 in the third, but Grace came back for five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Fowler, Kellen Hendry and Victoria Redding all had doubles for Grace. Redding added a single for two hits with Johnston adding a basehit.

The Lady Cardinals' pitcher could not find the strike zone as she walked 27 batters.

Other Grace hitters with RBIs were Haldey Brewer (3), Redding (2), Sheldon Furqueron (1), McKayla Camp (1) and Hendry (1).

Also scoring runs were Maddi Flanery (4), Brewer (3), Furqueron (3), Camp (3), Hendry (2), Johnston (1), Redding (1), Fowler (1), Brianna Carlson (1) and Claire Faulkner (1).

Johnston was in the circle for the Lady Cougars, giving up nine hits. She struck out six and walked seven.
