MOUNT PLEASANT — JuJu Brown rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns and Kilgore's defense made the most of eight Mount Pleasant turnovers as the Bulldogs upended the Tigers 38-6 on Friday night at Sam Parker Field.

Cooper Coldiron threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Kilgore enjoyed its most productive night of the season — statistically on the Tigers, who had scored 76 on Terrell a week ago.

For Coach Mike Wood's Bulldogs this was a total team effort, offense, defense and special teams as the Ragin' Red improved to 3-0. Through three games, the Kilgore defense has now allowed only two touchdowns since Mount Pleasant finally got on the scoreboard on a 5-yard Monty James completion to Andrew Flanagan late in the third quarter. The Tigers' lone touchdown came with Kilgore comfortably ahead 28-0.

Austin Jordan came on in the second half and made the most of his playing time, leading the Bulldogs' rushing attack with 141 yards.

Coldiron was 5 of 11 passing for 90 yards and a touchdown, coming on a 29-yard completion to his big tight end A.J. Davis just before halftime. Mount Pleasant's Laderius Craddock did have an interception.

Coldiron added a one-yard scoring run with 9:34 remaining in the third quarter.

James, who was electric in last week's victory over Terrell, was 20 of 37 passing for 277 yards, but suffered five interceptions. Kilgore's Benny Colbert and Q. Brewster each had two, and safety Hector Peralez had the other, returning it 60-yards for a touchdown with 7:03 left in the contest.

The game went about as expected early as Mount Pleasant's James came out throwing and Kilgore, behind Brown, answered running the football. James completed as many as five passes in a row at one point in the game and numerous times showed his scrambling ability eluding a strong Kilgore rush.

Turnovers though proved to be a key. The Tigers fumbled four times in the first half, losing three of those, and Colbert was a thorn in James' side, coming away with two interceptions. It would get worse for the Tigers (2-1) in the second half.

Brown scored on runs of two and 25 yards. The first touchdown came with just 18.6 seconds left in the first quarter and capped a 13-play, 85-yard drive. Peralez kicked the extra point, his first of five in the game —along with a 24-yard field goal and a 60-yard pass interception return for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

Kilgore, which opens district play next Friday against Spring Hill, finished with 389 yards of total offense – 299 came via the rush. Mount Pleasant, which faces Atlanta in another non-district contest next week, gained 335 yards, 277 passing and 58 rushing. James, a senior, was also the Tigers' leading rusher with 38 yards on 10 carries.
