The All Saints Trojans won a bronze medal on Saturday to highlight Tyler squads competing in 7on7 football events in Texas.

Coach Drew Starnes’ Trojans placed third in the Silver Bracket of the TAPPS 7on7 State Tournament held at Waco’s Heart of Texas Facility. All Saints placed in a tie for fourth with a 3-3 record in pool play on Friday. The Trojans were seeded fifth and were slotted into the Silver Bracket for the the fifth- and sixth-place seeds.

All Saints defeated Austin Texas School for the Deaf in the first round 40-17 before dropping a tight one, 28-25 to Victoria St. Joseph in the semifinals. In the third-place game, the Trojans downed Dallas First Baptist 46-14.

On Friday, returning all-state kicker Russell Wynne finished second in the punting challenge and the field goal challenge.

Tyler Grace Community placed fourth in the Gold Bracket (for third- and fourth-place seeded teams). The Cougars opened the day with a 43-31 win over Plano John Paul II. In the semifinals, Fort Worth Nolan downed Grace 41-20.

In the third-place game, the Cougars lost a shootout to Austin Regents 35-32. Grace finished 3-3 in its pool on Friday.

Also on Friday, Grace’s Alex Quintero won the field goal challenge and all around competition.

In College Station, John Tyler competed in the adidas Texas State 7on7 consolation bracket. The Lions won over Dickinson in the first round 27-26 before dropping a 34-22 decision to Lucas Lovejoy in the second round. The event was held at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

Mesquite Horn, who JT will face in the season opener on Aug. 31 in Tyler, won the consolation title with a 54-53 win over Round Rock.

In the championship bracket, A&M Consolidated, after finishing second last year to rival College Station, won it all this year with a 37-31 victory over Southlake Carroll.

Lufkin was 1-1 in the bracket, defeating Fort Bend Ridge Point 27-25 in the first round before falling to eventual champion A&M Consolidated 48-42 in the second round.

JT will next take part in the Powerade 7on7 Invitational July 11-13 near Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Lions will compete with teams from 18 states and the District of Columbia. Some pool play games will be streamed on ESPN3 on Friday, July 12. The semifinals and championship game on Saturday, July 13 will be broadcast on ESPNU.
