DIBOLL — Kendall Sanders scored three touchdowns to lead the Athens Hornets to a 44-12 win over Diboll Lumberjacks in a non-conference game Friday.
Athens (2-1) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 44-yard scoring pass from Anthony Sanders to Kendall Sanders.
The Lumberjacks climbed back into the game before the end of the quarter on a 53-yard run by Terrance Taylor.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Hornets put up 10 consecutive points on a 42-yard field goal by Jesse Durham and a 2-yard touchdown run by Adam Stallings for a 17-6 lead.
Diboll’s Carlos Teal then scored on a 43-yard run to make it 17-12, but the Hornets reeled off the final 27 points to blow the game open.
Kendall Sanders, who finished the game with 106 yards on eight carries and caught four passes for 67 yards, started the scoring with an 11-yard third-quarter touchdown run.
Sanders scored again in the fourth quarter on a 25-yard carry for a 31-12 lead.
Jawuan Martin, who finished the game as Athens’ leading rusher with 115 yards on 13 carries, scored on a 15 yard run before Raheem Miller closed out the Hornets’ offensive blitz with a 12-yard scoring run.
