RUSK — The Rusk Eagles scored 35 unanswered points en route to a 38-3 win over the Athens Hornets on Friday in a District 17-3A football game.

The Eagles improved to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Hornets fell to 5-4 and 1-2.

After Rusk’s Linoceo Rivera (23 yards) and Athens’s Jesse Durham (19) traded short field goals, the Eagles got going.

Rusk took a 17-3 halftime lead as Ray Foreman (3-yard run) and Chaston Bennett (28 run) scored touchdowns.

The Eagles added a third-quarter TD as Bennett burst through for a 39-yard TD run. Rusk had two TDs in the fourth quarter — Zacris Sturns (100 fumble return) and Carter Hutchison (2 run).

Rusk plays at Bullard Nov. 4, while Athens plays host to No. 1 Chapel Hill the same night.
