RUSK — Chaston Bennett had 177 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries, while Ray Foreman had 112 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries in Rusk’s 69-54 win over Brownsboro on Friday night.
Brownsboro’s K.T. Thompson had three touchdowns on the ground and two through the air. Quarterback Shelby Rogers went 21 of 34 for 312 yards and four touchdowns.
Rusk’s D.J. McDuff was the first to put points on the board with a 23-yard touchdown run to go up 7-0 within just over a minute. The Bears responded right back with a 15-yard run from Thompson that made the score 7-6 Rusk.
Kody Stanley’s 41-yard touchdown run and the extra point from Leoncio Rivera point a little distance between the two teams with a score of 14-6. However, that distance didn’t last long after Thompson scored his second touchdown, this one from 7 yards out.
He then ran for the 2-point conversion. That tied the game up at 14.
Thompson remained on fire as he hauled in a 32-yard touchdown reception to give the Bears their first lead at 21-14.
A 2-yard touchdown from Foreman tied it up at 21. A couple scores later, the score was 28-27 in favor of Rusk as the two teams went into the locker rooms at the halftime.
The Eagles eventually built a 21-point lead in the second half. A 15-yard touchdown from Rogers to Thompson proved to be too little too late with 36 seconds remaining as the Eagles’ offense took a knee on the next drive.
