Robert E. Lee head coach Ronda Shirley wasn't going to give up the dispute and her team took over after she won her argument.
The Lady Raiders won in sweep fashion 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 to move to 3-1 in District 11-6A play.
The match turned for Lee (19-10) at the tail end of the opening game.
With Mesquite leading Lee 20-19, the down official called REL for being out of rotation. This would've made the score 21-19 and put the visiting Lady Skeeters four points from taking a 1-0 lead in the match - and Shirley wasn't having it.
The second-year REL coach immediately stood up and protested. This carried on for several minutes as captains from both teams went over to talk to the head official at the net.
Finally, Shirley won her case and the point was taken off the board. A Lady Skeeter spike then went out to tie the game at 20-20 and Lee won the next five points to close it out.
"I was going to argue it because I knew I was in the right," Shirley said. "We stack and they don't do that a lot at the high school level and it's something different for (officials) to see because we are maybe playing a little more of an advanced game and I don't want my girls to be punished for it.
"We started a new right side tonight and she's been working really hard, but it's really all about (the girls) focusing on doing their gameplan and doing it well."
Lee junior April Brown led with 14 kills and did it in a variety of ways with power slams on quick sets, deft touches around the block and swing-away smackdowns on shot sets.
"I think tonight we played with a lot of intensity and everybody was just talking to each other and playing as a team," Brown said. "We just showed them no one is going to beat us on our home court."
Junior setter Mallory Collins piloted the offense with a team-high 23 assists, many of those to Brown. Freshman Aliyah Shirley finished with 10 assists and sophomore Neely Williams delivered six kills to go with three stuff blocks. Junior Ashley Oldham delivered seven kills and senior Deja Hamilton had five of Lee's nine aces.
When balls did get past the block, senior Taylor Hale, Oldham and junior Blythe Heisey were waiting, with the three combining for over 30 digs. Hale, a libero, added two kills with perfectly-placed and unexpected bumps to the back corners.
Mesquite's Te'Adra Johnson led the Lady Skeeters with eight kills and two aces with junior setter Mady Ashby finishing with 10 assists.
