Robert E. Lee’s Sergio Saucedo scored with 11 minutes remaining to give the Red Raiders a 3-2 win over Rockwall Tuesday at Red Raider Field.
The Lady Raiders were stopped 2-0 on the road at Rockwall.
The Red Raiders led 2-1 at halftime on goals from Rylan Thedford and Isaac Olivares.
The Red Raiders trailed 1-0 early on before Thedford put REL on the board, thanks to a perfect pass by Saucedo with Thedford doing the rest.
With a little over 10 minutes to go in the half, Rockwall’s goalkeeper was shown a straight red card for dissent.
REL took advantage of its man advantage to grab a 2-1 lead at halftime. Isaac Olivares tried to cross the ball into the box, but instead lofted it over everyone, including the new keeper.
The Yellowjackets turned up their pressure in the second half and were rewarded with an equalizing goal.
Lee was on its heels in a 2-2 game when a second red card was shown to Rockwall for a Yellowjackets player kicking a Lee player.
The subsequent free kick following the red-card foul ended up in the back of the net courtesy of Saucedo.
The win gives Lee 1-3-1 five points in the District 11-6A standings.
“We talked about being tough, playing hard and playing clean. We got the job done,” REL coach Marty Germany said about the win. “We are trying to take a positive step forward and look to be even better against North Mesquite on Friday.”
