PALESTINE — Pittsburg held off a late Palestine rally, scoring a wild 33-28 win Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.
When Colton Searcy scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter, the Pirates (2-0) had a 33-14 lead and appeared to have the game in their corner.
But Palestine’s Caleb Cargill scored on a 4-yard run and then hit Nicco Barnard with the two-point conversion and Palestine (1-1) trailed 33-22. Later, Barnard hauled in a 65-yard pass from Cargill, but the try for two failed and Pittsburg held on for the win. Barnard had seven catches for 127 yards.
Jacorian Smith and Brad Lewis each scored two touchdowns for the Pirates.
