BULLARD — The Bullard Panthers remained hot on the trail of league-leading Rusk, beating Brownsboro 8-2 on Thursday night at Panther Field in a District 17-3A encounter.

Bullard’s Cody Goode pitched a complete game, striking out eight, walking four and scattering four hits for the win.

The Panthers had seven different players with one hit apiece to claim the win.

The Bears got hits from Landon Mason (double), Aaron Sherman, Jay Dunklin and Chris Davis.

Bullard improved to 5-2 in league play, traveling to play a non-district game today in Whitehouse at 1 p.m. The next district affair will be Tuesday night when the Panthers travel to the front-running Rusk in a 7 p.m. game.

Brownsboro return to play at Rusk on April 13, at 7 p.m.

Panthers third baseman JP Hendrix started the six-run sixth with a single. Panther shortstop Jesse Duplechin followed by reaching reached base with a push-bunt.

Two batters later, Weston Gray came through with a walk to load the bases for the top of the order. Taft Rose took the first pitch in the middle of the back and that plated JP Hendrix.

A rash of four errors by the Bears plated five more runs for the 8-2 lead that would be a final score.

Leadoff hitter for Bullard, Taft Rose, started off the scoring after a single in the bottom of the third inning. Holden Bryant moved Rose over with a sacrifice bunt and teammate Trevor Rumbelow flew out to deep centerfield.

Clean-up hitter Cameron Hallford drew a walk for runners at the corner before a passed ball scored Rose and moved Hallford over to third with a 1-0 lead.

Goode aided his cause on the mound with an RBI single to plate Hallford for a 2-0 lead after two innings.

Brownsboro answered back to tie the game in the fifth inning after Bears first baseman Landon Mason ripped a stand-up double to plate Jay Dunklin.

With one out, Brownsboro’s Miles Spencer hit a grounder to second base behind the base runner Mason, scoring on the fielder’s choice for a 2-2 tie.
