Grand Saline couldn’t ask for a much better homecoming when it hosted Winona on Friday night, as Indians beat the Wildcats, 30-8.

Grand Saline running back T.J. Ollison ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead the way in rushing. Freshman quarterback Austen Truett completed 6-of-7 passes for 82 yards and also ran for two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Frank Mitchell had two interceptions.

Winona’s Ke’Aaron Cobb carried the ball 20 times for 54 yards and Craig Wheeler was right behind him with 49 yards.

Grand Saline only led 6-0 at the half, but used a 40-yard touchdown run by Truett and a two-point conversion by Ollison to put the Indians up 14-0 in the third. The duo repeated the process again for a 22-0 lead with 3:21 left in the third quarter.

The Wildcats eventually responded, but not until 6:15 left in the game. Brodrick Thompson capped the drive on a 1-yard touchdown run and Cobb tacked on the 2-point conversion to make it 22-8.

If the nail wasn’t in the coffin already, it was with 10 seconds remaining when Ollison ran it in from 11 yards out and converted on the 2-point conversion to seal the 30-8 win.
