Minter, Brook Hill rout All Saints in warmup

The defending TAPPS 3A champion Bullard Brook Hill Guard looked ready for a repeat in a 13-2 win over TAPPS 2-4A district champion All Saints in a warmup game at All Saints’ baseball field Tuesday.

Brook Hill (23-3) exploded for 10 runs in the first inning. Kendall Kerns hit a three-run homer well over the left field fence to make it 4-0. A.J. Minter later pounded a three-run homer of his own to dead right field for the 10-0.

All Saints (18-6-1) came back to score two runs in the fourth inning. William Young’s hard-hit single scooted under the Guard right fielder to plate Chandler Hammond. Young later scored on a sacrifice by Carter Skeen for the only Trojan runs.

Brook Hill answered with a three run, two-out rally for the 13-2, 10-run mercy rule end. Intentional walks to Minter and Kerns set the stage for a two-run single by Travis Pirtle, who has gone 11 for his last 12 with 14 RBIs to raise his batting average to .496.

Young was 2 for 2 at the plate while John Norton, Owen Harris, and Hammond added the three additional hits off winning pitcher Drew Robertson.

Robertson struck out four with no walks while giving up the five hits and one earned run.

All Saints will play host to Fort Worth Southwest Christian, Saturday at Trojan Field at 6 p.m. to open the 4A playoffs.

Brook Hill plays Crockett in another warm up game in Crockett on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Guard will entertain Katy Faith West in the first round of the 3A playoffs at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
