LONGVIEW — Morgan Catron finished 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead No. 16 Mineola past Spring Hill, 8-1, in the opener of a best-of-three Class 3A bi-district softball series Friday.

The series shifts to Mineola for Game 2 at 10 a.m. today.

Game 3, if necessary, will follow.

Catron’s homers came in the third and seventh innings, the latter moving three runs across the plate to blow the game open. Marisa Ledkins added another solo blast in the third for Mineola, which improved to 21-7 on the season.

Mineola pitcher Rikkilyn Hass improved to 20-5 on the mound, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
