KEMP — The Malakoff Tigers raced out to a 19-point halftime lead and held off the Kemp Yellowjackets for a 25-14 win Friday night.
Malakoff (3-1) secured the victory with a 91-yard drive that resulted in an 8-yard Jacob Teague run with 1:40 to go in the game.
The Yellowjackets, who stayed winless at 0-4, scored twice in the third quarter to trim the Tigers’ lead to 19-14 with 6:29 remaining.
Teague tossed a 19-yard pass to Kameron Fletcher to open the scoring for Malakoff. Fletcher hit Garrett Airheart with a pass from 35 yards out for another score.
Malakoff also scored on a 37-yard Cesar Garcia field goal and a safety in the first half. The field goal was set up by a Dustin Higgs’ blocked punt.
Kash Armstrong intercepted a pass for the Tigers in the fourth quarter after Teague’s game-clinching touchdown.
The Tigers play New Diana on the road next week.
