MALAKOFF — It was no contest Friday night as the Malakoff Tigers rolled to a 56-7 win over the Kerens Bobcats in the 73rd renewal of the Trinity River rivalry.
The Tigers were led in the rout by senior quarterback Jacob Teague. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Teague also rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Malakoff, which improved to 2-1, jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a pair of Damonte Dowell rushing touchdowns. Kerens answered with a 73-yard pass from Shelton Sayles to Paul Williams for its only score.
Kash Armsrong caught two of Teague's touchdown tosses — a 56-yarder for a 42-7 halftime lead and a 38-yarder in the third quarter. Kameron Fletcher caught the other scoring strike on a 74-yard play.
Jessie Ochoa and Tate Taylor had rushing touchdowns for the Tigers. Taylor also recovered a fumble that set up a 22-yard Teague scoring scamper.
Kerens dropped to 1-2 with its third straight loss to the Tigers.
Malakoff goes to Kemp next week. Kerens hosts Blooming Grove.
