DIANA — The Malakoff Tigers improved to 4-1 Friday night with a 41-12 win against New Diana in their non-district finale.
The Malakoff defense produced six turnovers to fuel the victory, including a 38-yard Keonte Ross interception return for a touchdown in the first half. Ross also recovered a fumble to set up another score.
Kash Armstrong also came up with a pair turnovers for the Malakoff defense, recovering two fumbles. Jessie Ochoa recovered a fumble and Garrett Airheart intercepted a pass.
Airheart had a fumble recovery, interception, and caught two TDs — plus he downed a punt on the Eagle 1 on special teams .
Demontes Dowell scored on a pair of runs (25 and 6) for the Tigers and Cesar Garcia kicked field goals of 32 and 23 yards.
The Tigers led 27-6 at the half.
New Diana dropped to 0-4.
Malakoff is open next week and opens District 11-2A action at home on Friday, Oct. 7 against Troup.
