LINDALE — The Lindale boys and girls basketball teams remained unbeaten in District 14-3A by sweeping Canton in doubleheader action Friday night at the LHS gymnasium.

The girls opened with a 41-30 victory, while the boys capped things with 60-35 win.

Lindale returns to action Tuesday at Quinlan Ford. The girls are set to play at 6:30 p.m., and the boys will follow at 8 p.m.

Canton plays host to Wills Point at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday. 

Girls

Hannah Malone scored 13 points and Kalyn Peters added 11 for Lindale, which played without its head coach for the second consecutive game. Greg Strawn was suspended indefinitely from the post Monday.

Many players, students and parents wore shirts with his name across the front, plus made signs and chanted his name at one point during the game. 

Lindale (22-8, 9-0), ranked No. 17 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, jumped in front 11-0 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Canton scored for the first time of the night with 6:26 left in the second quarter. 

Emery Elliot scored 10 points to lead Canton, which fell to 15-17 on the season and 5-4 in district. 

Boys

Jordan VanDeKop scored a game-high 27 points to help improve Lindale to 22-7 on the season and 7-0 in the league. 

The senior post scored 19 points in the second half to help Lindale pull away after taking a 25-15 lead into the break. 

Lindale took a 39-20 lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back.

Ryan Anderson had 13 points and Brad Wiggins added 10 for Canton, which fell to 13-16 on the season and 3-4 in district.
