LINDALE — Trey Acy and the Lindale Eagles celebrated homecoming and ran at will Friday night on their way to opening District 14-3A with a 51-13 win over Wills Point.
Acy capped the Eagles’ opening drive with a 36-yard touchdown run on the way to a 135-yard night and two additional touchdowns.
Eagles quarterback Clay Price contributed in a number of ways in the win, rushing for two touchdowns and passing for another. The Eagle offense totaled 389 yards on the ground on 40 rushes.
Lindale scored touchdowns on both of its first two possessions, mounting drives of 73 and 72 yards. Acy capped the first series and a 6-yard Price pass to Lance Kane capped the second for the Eagles.
The Eagle defense was impressive, allowing only 13 points while picking off four passes and recovering a fumble.
Lindale (5-1, 1-0) rolled in the first and second quarter, but exploded after the half for 28 points in the third quarter. Price scored on runs of 18 and 75 yards, and Acy scored from four yards out.
Also in the third quarter, cornerback Aaron Smith scored on a fantastic interception, in which he tipped the ball up over the would-be receiver to himself, gathered the ball in and sprinted in from 28 yards out to put the Eagles up 51-7 with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter.
Wills Point (3-3, 0-1) quarterback Dalton King ended up with 120 yards on 12 carries and a fourth quarter touchdown. He also passed for 142 yards on 11 of 32 passing and another touchdown.
