Robert E. Lee quarterback Chance Amie was a key player in helping the Red Raiders score their first district win of the season last Friday in Tyler.
For his performance, Amie was named the "American State Bank Player of the Week" for Week 8 of the 2017 high school football season, Tim Haugh, ASB vice president, announced on Wednesday.
The Red Raiders got back in the win column with a 49-20 win over the Mesquite Skeeters at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Leading the way was Amie, who was 6 of 13 passing for 70 yards, while rushing 16 times for 140 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
Others receiving votes from all of the nominations received were: John Tyler wide receiver/kick returner Michael Givens-Washington and Tyler Lee running back Ladarius Wickware.
"Chance always makes good reads in the run game, which allows our offense to get what the opposing defense gives them," Body Lipsey, quarterback coach and offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders, said. "He is a positive leader and the team really responds well to him."
Haugh added, "Chance is one of those players that we have kept our eye on for the last two seasons. We always figured he would more than likely be named the ASB Player of the Week just from his numbers he has been putting up. And with him already committed to the University of Houston, it should be interesting to see what he can do at the college level."
