MARSHALL — For the second consecutive year, the Robert E. Lee football team will load up and head east for its lone dress rehearsal before the curtain drops Friday, Aug. 30.
The Red Raiders and Mavericks will participate in a controlled scrimmage with the varsity to take the field at 7 p.m. Friday at Maverick Stadium.
This scrimmage was originally scheduled for Thursday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium, but had to be moved because of UIL regulations preventing a team that participated in spring practices scrimmaging before Friday. Lee held spring drills.
Lee dominated in this contest a year ago, but coach Darrell Piske expects a sterner test from the Mavericks this time around.
“They will be much improved,” Piske said.
“They have a new coach and they played their first scrimmage last week, so it should be a real good test for us.”
The scrimmage will start with 15 plays of Lee’s No. 1 offense versus Marshall’s No. 1 defense before switching. The second session is 12 plays with the No. 2 units with the No. 1’s and No.2’s squaring off once more for 10 plays a piece. The final segment will feature two 12-minute quarters with a semi-running clock.
