JACKSONVILLE — They overcame and they saw.
LaTifah Rainey scored all 17 of her points in the second half to lead John Tyler to a come-from-behind 44-33 win over Jacksonville on Friday.
After trailing by double digits early, JT outscored Jacksonville 14-5 in the third period to take control of a game tied at the midway point.
The Lady Lions (18-8, 7-2) won for the fourth straight game and maintained their place in second place with five district games remaining. The JT girls arrived back in Tyler in time to catch the second half of the boys’ game, won by the Lions over the Indians.
“It was very intense,” JT coach Mike Smith said. “We showed a lot of character and played fantastic defense in the second half.”
Tiaka Lee added 11 points and Quaneshia Johnson scored nine points as JT completed a sweep over the defending league champions.
