AUSTIN — Behind a hat trick from Kendall Wells, the Bullard Brook Hill girls soccer team advanced to the state final four in its first season as a TAPPS program.
The Lady Guard beat Austin Veritas 5-2 in a TAPPS Division III regional playoff on Thursday to book a trip to San Antonio.
Haley Dumesnil had three assists and a goal and Kennedy Rose tallied a goal and an assist for Brook Hill. Wells also had an assists.
“We won tonight because we played hard; we played harder than they did,” Lady Guard coach David Collins said. “It was a team effort tonight.”
The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime.
“Our defense played outstanding tonight,” Collins said. “They were a huge part of our win. They defended very well.”
Brook Hill will face either Carrollton Prince of Peace or Houston St. Thomas Episcopal on Feb. 17 in San Antonio in a state semifinal match.
Brook Hill Baseball Begins Title Defense
The defending TAPPS 3A state champion Bullard Brook Hill baseball team opens its season today. The Guard will play at Trinity Christian-Addison at 3 p.m.
Brook Hill returns all but one player from its championship squad, including Texas A&M signees A.J. Minter and JB Moss.
All Saints, one of three teams to beat the Guard last year, opens Saturday against Pantego Christian at 3 p.m. in Canton.
T.K. Gorman and Grace Community both begin play on Feb. 17. The Crusaders play Chapel Hill while the Cougars play at Troup.
