UIL state baseball

Kilgore’s Jayce McFarland and Wells’ Logan Tucker earned All-State Baseball Tournament, the University Interscholastic League announced from Austin on Sunday.

Four Linden-Kildare players earned all-tournament — Nick Kunze, Dalton Alford, Trent Wert and Jacob Owen.

McFarland is a junior outfielder for the Bulldogs. Kilgore was appearing in its fourth state tournament, the Bulldogs’ first since 1972. The Bulldogs fell to Sweeny in the state semifinals 5-1.

Tucker is a senior catcher for the Pirates. Wells appeared in its first-ever state tournament. The Pirates lost to New Home, 12-2, in the state semifinals.

For L-K, Kunze is a junior first baseman, Alford is a senior shortstop, Wert is a senior outfielder and Owen, a senior, made the team as a utility player.

Linden-Kildare defeated Valley Mills 5-0 in the state semifinals before falling to defending state champion Dallardsville Big Sandy 7-1 in the Class 2A title game.

The Tigers were appearing in their fourth state tournament.

The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association selected the all-tournament teams with the Most Valuable Player voted on by the media.
