Katrina Kastmo slammed a powerful spike over the net only for Jessica Jacobi to come up with an impressive, diving dig.
So Maddie Smith set up Kastmo again, and this time the All Saints junior wasn’t denied, smashing the ball into the floor.
The overpowering effort epitomized All Saints’ 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of T.K. Gorman on Monday at Haddad Gym.
The Lady Trojans (20-9, 10-2 TAPPS 2-4A) completed a season sweep of the Lady Crusaders (15-19, 3-9) without dropping a game.
Lanna Johnson led the way for All Saints with eight kills, seven digs and four aces.
“Lanna Johnson had a really good night,” Lady Trojans coach Cristy O’Bannon said. “She served well, she hit well, she had some really great digs; she was really kind of an all-around player for us tonight that stepped up.”
The aforementioned kill by Kastmo, one of her 12, gave All Saints a 20-12 lead in Game 1 on the way to the largest margin of the three games.
Game 2 was tied at 9 before a long rally ended in the Lady Trojans’ favor. The sequence, during which the ball hit the roof, finally ended when Kaitlyn Huskey’s hit nicked a Lady Crusader on its way out of bounds. All Saints used the momentum from that point to reel off a 10-3 spurt on the way to a Game 2 win.
The Lady Trojans led 7-0 to start Game 3 before the Lady Crusaders made things interesting in the end. Madeline Wynne’s seventh kill ended the match and the comeback attempt.
Danielle Smith paced the Gorman effort with seven digs and two aces while Maggie Jorgenson had a team-high 14 serves. Also chipping in for the Lady Crusaders were Alicia Turman (six digs), Maddie Raney (three blocks, three kills) and Susannah Williams (four blocks).
Maddie Smith amassed 35 assists and seven digs for All Saints. Huskey (nine kills, four digs, two blocks, three aces), Kastmo (four digs, one ace, three blocks) and Wynne (seven kills, three digs, four blocks) rounded out the top Lady Trojan performers.
Gorman hosts Dallas Parish Episcopal today at 7 p.m. for Senior Night. The Lady Crusaders end their season Thursday at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill.
All Saints, which needs to win out to ensure a home playoff match, plays at Dallas Christian tonight then hosts first-place Waco Reicher on Thursday.
