It will be a busy hoops night in East Texas on Tuesday, particularly in the Rose City.

Crosstown rivals John Tyler and Tyler Lee will meet in basketball at Wagstaff Gymnasium on the Tyler Junior College campus.

A few miles to the southeast, the UT Tyler Patriots will take on the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.


The Lady Lions and Lady Raiders tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Red Raiders and Lions at 7 p.m.

It is the only scheduled basketball meeting between the two schools this season.

The JT girls are 3-6 overall, having won three straight games to finish third in the Sixth Annual Thanksgiving Tip-Off, sponsored by the Emory Lions Club, at Rains High School in Emory last week.

The Lady Lions will take part in the Winnsboro Tournament beginning Thursday.

The Lady Raiders are 4-4 on the season with back-to-back wins last week against Lufkin and Ennis. REL is scheduled to play in the Royse City Tournament beginning on Thursday.

The Lions are 1-3 on the season, having defeated Palestine 58-46 on Friday in the 23rd Annual Jasper Ventures/Tyler Area Basketball Officials Classic in Whitehouse.

Following Tuesday’s game, the JT will play in the North Texas Invitational in Sanger. The Lions have games two games on Thursday (noon vs. Frisco Lebanon Trail, 5:20 p.m. vs. Fort Worth Paschal) and one game on Friday (noon vs. Denton).

The Red Raiders are 2-5 on the season. Lee is also scheduled to play in the Royse City Tournament.


Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. between the Patriots and Bulldogs.

UT Tyler is 2-4 entering the non-conference matchup.

This is the eighth meeting between the two local clubs. The Hawkins-based JCC leads the series 4-3 with the Patriots having one the last two matchups.

The Bulldogs are 0-7 on the season.

Following Tuesday’s game the Patriots will play host to Texas A&M-Commerce in a Lone Star Conference game on Dec. 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The UT Tyler women and A&M-Commerce will play at 2 p.m.

After the game with the Patriots, JCC will play host to LSU-Shreveport at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
