Live from Scarborough Stadium in Bethel, it’s Monday Night Football.
Two East Texas football games that were washed out on Friday, and in one case on Saturday as well, are set to play on Monday.
In Corsicana, it will be a District 16-5A contest between the John Tyler Lions and Corsicana Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
On the Cayuga High School campus in Bethel, the Alto Yellow Jackets meet the Cayuga Wildcats in a District 11-2A Division I game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Instead of Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden in the booth for the JT-Corsicana game, it will be Manny Almanza and Trevor Peele broadcasting the contest on ESPN 92.1-FM.
The JT-Corsicana game was postponed by a deluge of rain in the Navarro County area. The rain made many roads impassable. The game was moved to Saturday, but once again travel was too difficult.
Thus, officials decided on Monday night.
The Lions have won four straight to improve to 4-3 overall and 4-0 in District 16-5A. The Tigers are 6-1 and 3-1.
With the change to Monday, the two teams cannot play again until Saturday under UIL rules. JT will play host to Jacksonville on Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Kickoff on Earl Campbell Field is set for 1:30 p.m.
With JT and Jacksonville playing the early afternoon game, the Southwest Junior College Football Conference semifinal between Tyler Junior College and Navarro College has been shifted from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Dr. Tim Drain, TJC athletic director, said. The other semifinal has Kilgore College meeting Trinity Valley Community College at Bruce Field in Athens.
Navarro defeated Blinn 48-14 on Sunday in Corsicana to secure the No. 3 seed in the conference.
Corsicana is scheduled to play at Lufkin on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. on John Outlaw Memorial Field at Abe Martin Stadium.
Alto enters the contest with Cayuga unbeaten with a 7-0 record. The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 in District 11-2A Division I. The Wildcats are 2-5 overall and more importantly 2-0 in league play.
