Jake Boozer rushed for 268 yards and scored five touchdowns in leading Waco Reicher Catholic to a 60-14 win over Tyler Bishop Gorman Catholic on Friday at McCallum Stadium in Tyler.
Boozer scored on runs of 12, 4, 29, 33, and a 79-yard wind sprint as he beat defenders around the right side, found open space, and jetted into the end zone. Boozer also damaged the Crusaders with his arm, hitting AJ Morales with a five-yard touchdown strike.
Trailing 7-6 after the first stanza, the Cougars went on a 34-point barrage in the second quarter with Boozer scoring four of the team’s five touchdowns.
The Crusaders got on the board first when Dozie Ifeadi snagged an AJ Smith pass and outraced a pair of defenders. Reicher struck back quickly when Ethan Fuentes returned the ensuning kickoff 82 yards, going virtually untouched. The missed PAT kept the Crusaders ahead, 7-6.
From there, it was all Reicher. Littlehawk Saldana would score two touchdowns for the Cougars on runs of 27 and 35.
Smith rushed for 142 yards for Bishop Gorman, which fell to 1-4. Reicher Catholic improved to 2-4.
The Crusaders play at Fort Worth Calvary on Friday, while Waco Reicher hosts San Marcos Academy the same night.
