BULLARD — The Henderson Lions took a step toward a playoff berth from District 165-3A with a 34-10 win over Bullard Friday night at Panther Stadium.
In a game that most likely was for fourth place in the league, Henderson broke open what was a close game at the half and ran away from Bullard.
The Lions (3-5, 2-2 in District 16-4A) held a 10-3 lead at intermission, with the difference in the opening half coming on an 89-yard kickoff return by the Lions’ Trey Hollins that came with 6:51 to play in the second stanza.
The second half was a different story as Henderson outpointed Bullard (3-4, 1-3) 21-3 in the final two quarters to win with ease.
Bullard’s first half points came on a 26-yard Zack Aldridge field goal that tied the game at 3-3 early in the second quarter.
That would be all the points the Panthers could muster up until Austin Skelton rammed in on a 12-yard touchdown run with 6:26 to go in the game.
Zane Boles, the Lions’ senior quarterback, tossed three touchdown passes in the game to ignite the Henderson offense.
Zedrick Lister had two scoring receptions, each of the 13-yard variety, while Hollins had a 30-yard touchdown grab from Boles.
Henderson placekicker Edgar Sanchez had a big night by booting field goals covering 24 and 40 yards, respectively, while going 3-of-3 on PAT attempts.
Henderson hosts Kilgore next week, while Bullard travels to Gilmer. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.for both contests.
