BROWNSBORO — The Henderson Lady Lions evened up the Class 3A area playoff series with the Crandall Lady Pirates with a 10-7 win on Friday night at Lady Bears Field.

Henderson cranked out the bats early to score four runs on five hits in the first inning.

The first of two Alison Waggoner doubles started the rally before singles from Natalie McQuiston, Tessa Thomas, Taylor White and Jessica Thomas made it 4-0.

Crandall’s Shelby McGraw ripped an RBI-double in the bottom of the first for a 4-1 score after one inning.

The Lady Lions (23-6) came right back with five more runs on three hits. On one play, two miscues by the Lady Pirates allowed the batter, Karley Free, to chase home two runs and round the bases to make it 9-0.

Winning pitcher Tiarra Davis and Waggoner hit back-to-back doubles and added an insurance run leading off the sixth inning for a 10-1 advantage.

Not to go down without a fight, Crandall came back in the last at-bat to take advantage of three of its nine hits to score six runs.

Henderson’s reliever ran into some control problems late with four walks before Davis returned to the mound for the win and the save.

Crandall’s McGraw went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored while teammate Briana Whisenthunt was 3 for 4 and scored once out of the lead-off spot. Hanna Hume ripped a big two-RBI single in the seventh inning rally for Crandall.

Pacing the Lady Lions was Waggoner with her two doubles, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Davis went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. On the mound, Davis struck out one, walked none and gave in to one unearned run in the win.

The same two teams will settle the series on at 11 a.m. today at Lady Bears Field in Brownsboro.
