BROWNSBORO — It was a clean sweep for Brownsboro basketball during the opening day of the Great East Texas Shootout on Thursday.

The Brownsboro Bearettes defeated Gladewater 66-15 and then took a 60-22 win over Tyler HEAT. In both games, the Bearettes held their opponent scoreless in a quarter.

The Brownsboro Bears opened with a 63-49 win over Elysian Fields and closed the night by defeating Quinlan Ford 50-39.

Against Gladewater, the Bearettes led 18-5 after the first quarter, 41-7 at halftime and 59-7 after three quarters.

Freshman Paris Miller had 13 points and 16 rebounds for Brownsboro. Sophomore Kentoya Woods had 11 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Alexis Soong had 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Mekayhia Moore had six steals, and sophomore Alexis Hambrick had six steals and six assists.

Against Tyler HEAT, Brownsboro held a slim 12-11 lead after the first quarter before outscoring Tyler HEAT 16-0 in the second quarter.

The Bearetters held a 47-14 advantage after the third quarter.

Miller scored 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half. Moore and Woods had 8 points each.

Rachael Taylor led Tyler HEAT with 8 points and four steals.

Against Elysian Fields, the Bears led 19-7 after the first quarter, 34-23 at halftime and 44-29 after three quarters.

Gage Wehrmann had 17 points for Brownsboro. Jarrod Hastings had 14 points, and Tylor Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Michael Ramirez had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Elysian Fields.

Against Quinlan Ford, Johnson had 21 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Hastings finished with 12 points.

Eli Chambers led Quinlan Ford with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Brownsboro girls will play Sunnyvale at 6 p.m. Friday in the high school gym, and the Brownsboro boys will play Kaufman at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the high school gym.

BOYS

Van 64, Sunnyvale 49

PJ Brooks poured in 27 points as Van picked up a 64-49 win over Sunnyvale.

Brooks scored 20 of his game-high total in the first half as the Vandals took a 47-30 halftime lead.

Van hit nine 3-pointers in the first half — three apiece by Brooks, Parker Krumvieda and Austin Mitchell. That trio has played basketball all season. This week, they were joined by members of the football team to put the Vandals at full strength.

Krumvieda and Mitchell finished with 11 points each.

Liam Nielson grabbed 12 rebounds for Van.

Charles Mayes III had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Sunnyvale.

In other boys’ action in the high school gym, Matthew Reeves hit nine 3-pointers and scored 39 points as Mansfield Legacy took a 81-46 win over Gilmer.

Central Connecticut signee Trevian Tennyson had 16 points for Mansfield Legacy.

Tra Fluellen led Gilmer with 14 points.

Royse City defeated Palestine Westwood 57-38. Brendan Hanko led Royse City with 12 points.

GIRLS

Tyler HEAT 37, Grace Community 36

Tyler HEAT rallied from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take a 37-36 overtime win over Grace Community to open the tournament.

Grace led 34-25 after three quarters. Tyler HEAT forced overtime and then outscored Grace 4-3 in the extra frame.

Ryan Kirksey led Tyler HEAT with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Jordan Tauscher led Grace with 9 points.

The Bullard Lady Panthers won both of their games on Thursday.

Bullard opened with a 45-21 win over John Tyler behind 12 points from Haley Day and 10 points by Sydney Foster.

Asia Parker led John Tyler with 12 points.

Bullard then cruised to a 44-11 rout of Crandall.

Erin Berry knocked down three of her six 3-pointers in the first quarter to give the Lady Panthers a 16-5 lead.

Bullard led 21-6 at halftime and 33-8 after three quarters.

Berry finished with 18 points. Day had 13 points, and Foster had 6 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Bullard will play Texas High in the quarterfinals at 12:15 p.m. Friday in the Brownsboro High School gym.

John Tyler will take on Brownsboro JV at 8 a.m. Friday in the Brownsboro Elementary Gym.
